Typically I pay a 25% referral fee for inbound referrals. It is my belief that I was chosen by that agent based on past experience, personal knowledge, my experience etc. For any of those reasons it is important to reward the other agent and their firm financially as this is first a business and without financial reward we would not have this as our career!
With outbound referrals I expect the same compensation. I ask for 25% and will not negotiate for a lower fee. Then I send over a referral agreement, require their signature and their Brokers signature on the form even with those agents I have worked with before. I then give a copy to my clients whom I am referring so they understand I am being compensated. That serves two purposes. I want my client to give me feedback and to also know I am receiving money for my services and the reason is, it keeps this very professional. Last, I follow up with my referred client and the receiving agent. This keeps everyone on the same page and keeps us on an even playing field.
I look forward to working with you.
